Fall Driving Tip #7: Exercise Caution When Driving on Wet Pavement

AAA reports that “wet pavement contributes to nearly 1.2 million traffic crashes each year.”

The rain is moving in as we slowly shift from warm, sunny fall to chilly, wet fall. Before you hit the road, whether commuting to work, heading to the grocery store, or simply dropping your kid off at school, ensure complete visibility and check your vehicle for:

  • Properly functioning headlights, taillights, and turn signals. (This ensures you can see and be seen.)
  • Properly working windshield wipers. (If they leave streaks or don’t fully clear your window, it’s time to replace them.)

Once you’re on the road, increase following distance and reduce your speeds. This allows for more time to react, slow down, or stop, and reduces your risk of hydroplaning or skidding.

If you were injured because another driver failed to properly maintain their vehicle or were driving recklessly or negligently in wet weather conditions, call Multerer Law Firm at 716-882-8828.
