Fall Driving Tip #1: Protect Against Sun Glare.

Keep your friends close, and your sunglasses even closer! We’ve officially entered the autumnal season and as temperatures continue to fluctuate, one thing that will steadily decrease is the number of daylight hours. Shorter days means a greater chance of driving into the sun during rush hour. Autumn sunrises and sunsets create significant sun glare that can be blinding, making it difficult to see the road ahead, pedestrians, traffic lights, and other obstacles.

(If you take I-290 W home, you’ve probably noticed this seasonal change as you crest the hill between Niagara Falls Blvd and Colvin Ave!)

Ensure you always have good visibility when driving:

  • Keep your sunglasses on hand to protect your eyes.
  • Clean your windshield inside and out to eliminate dust, smudges, and streaks that can amplify sun glare.
  • Avoid waxes on your vehicle that will reflect sunlight into your eyes.
  • Reduce your speed if necessary and exercise extreme caution when visibility is impacted.
