Summer Driving Safety Tip #4: Master safe lane changes in construction zones.
Construction season has begun which means an increase in reduced speed zones and congestion, temporary lane closures, temporary changes in traffic patterns, and even new temporary traffic signals.
When your lane slows to a crawl and the next lane continues to progress, it’s understandable that you want to quickly change lanes, but lane change accidents are one of the most preventable.
Protect yourself, other drivers on the road, and construction workers:
- Stay aware of your surroundings
- Signal early
- Merge slowly and carefully; no sudden jerking
- Know your blind spots and check frequently
- Reduce the number of lane changes
- Increase following distance so you have more room to merge
If you’ve been injured because a negligent or reckless driver failed to safely change lanes, you could be entitled to compensation.
