Summer Driving Safety Tip #1: Protect against sun glare.

Driving in the summertime brings several unique challenges that we experience to a much lesser extent in fall-spring. One of those challenges – although we haven’t seen much of it lately – is that summer sunshine. Sure, it’s perfect for tanning by the pool, grilling on the patio, or cheering on your youth athletes at their local ballpark. But when the sun is in full force, it presents a major challenge to drivers: sun glare.

Sun glare is the intense brightness from the sun that reflects off nearby surfaces, like windshields, buildings, or other vehicles, which can reduce visibility, create blind spots, obscure brake lights, and make it harder to see vehicles, traffic signs/signals, or pedestrians. Sun glare is more common early in the morning and later in the evening.

Always keep the inside of your windshield clean to minimize your risk of sun glare. Wear a hat or sunglasses, or use a sun visor to protect your eyes and ensure you have full visibility of the road ahead.

If you’ve been injured in an accident due to sun glare and another driver’s negligent behavior on the road, we’re here to help.
