Summer Driving Safety Tip #2: Perform preventative vehicle maintenance.

Extreme heat puts added strain on your vehicle which can lead to mechanical problems and breakdowns. Don’t cause a potentially deadly accident because you failed to maintain your vehicle.

Keep yourself and others safe:

  • Pay attention to your car’s temperature gauge and pull over if the engine gets too hot
  • Check coolant levels and ensure there are no leaks
  • If your car battery is older, have it routinely tested or replaced as high temperatures can shorten battery life
  • Check tire pressure and maintain proper PSI to reduce your risk of a blowout (tire pressure is vulnerable to high heat)
  • Replace air and cabin filters for better airflow
  • Consider using the “recirculate” setting to cool your vehicle faster
  • Have belts and hoses inspected – these can degrade faster in high heat

If you’ve been injured in an accident because a negligent driver failed to maintain their car, truck, or SUV, we’re here to help.
