As the weather heats up, cyclists hit the road to explore the City of Buffalo, slow roll with fellow bike enthusiasts, commute to work, and more!
Just like motor vehicles, cyclists must:
- Stop at red lights and stop signs
- Ride in the direction of traffic
- Yield to pedestrians
- Generally stay off the sidewalk (unless under 14)
Cyclists have the right to ride on the road, especially in designated bike lanes when available.
When a distracted or negligent driver fails to stay aware, they can strike a cyclist, often leading to serious injury. This can occur when:
- A car fails to properly share the road and clips a cyclist as it passes
- A car turns or pulls out directly in front of a cyclist
- A car runs a red light, yellow light, or stop sign
