Common Causes of Car Accidents #8: Driving on snowy or icy streets.
Last week’s polar plunge brought plenty of ice and snow to Western New York. While we previously posted a series of winter driving safety tips (find them at multererlaw.com), it’s important to remember just how dangerous these driving conditions can become.
Snow and ice can cause roads to be slick, reduce your ability to slow down quickly, and put you at risk of skidding or losing control of your vehicle.
There is plenty of potential for additional snowfalls this year. If you must drive in wintry weather, be sure to:
• Completely clear your vehicle of snow to ensure total visibility and eliminate blind spots.
• Reduce speeds and leave extra space between your car and the next.
• Leave early and give yourself extra time to reduce the need to rush.
• Avoid cruise control.
• Eliminate distractions as much as possible.
Arriving safely at your destination should always be your priority!
